Another beautiful session with so much green foliage, it makes me wish summer would last forever! I actually met Dan and Jav about six years ago now (has it really been that long?!?) when I moved to Chicago. Jav had just given birth to Miles and we found each other when I was looking for a nannying position. I had moved to Chicago pretty out-of-the-blue and nannying during the week was both a fun and ideal way to pay my bills while I began building up my photography business. Miles was a pretty awesome dude even (at just a few weeks old!) and we got to discover the city together. I still think back fondly to those sunny days lounging in parks with him, watching him learn to roll and crawl and talk, reading endlessly to him – everything from Dr. Seuss to long stanzas of poetry I had memorized (and still remember!). I love getting to pop back into this fun family’s life occasionally, hearing what they’ve been up to, meeting his younger sister, and getting to see what a fantastic kiddo Miles continues to be. Even though I’m primarily a North Carolina Portrait Photographer these days, I still get back to the city often and love finding new locations to shoot each time. Austin Gardens in Oak Park made for a perfect backdrop – not only were the trees lush and shady, but there was also some sort of event being set up, meaning there was bright bunting hung on one end of the park. You can just spot it in some of the photos!

PS. I just know that you’re wondering now what poetry I was memorizing. Am I right? Here’s one of my favorite poems I memorized that year that seems perfect for hot August days. Especially the lines:
