Once upon a time, way back in the spring when I still lived in Chicago, I decided it would be fun to photograph a few of the beautiful nurseries that moms in the city designed for their little ones. I’m one of those people who just loves seeing glimpses of other family’s homes – especially in the city, where folks have to get creative with small spaces. Nurseries, in particular, are such fun and joyous rooms, full of hope and excitement. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, I COMPLETELY overestimated how difficult it would be to pack up an apartment, move across the country without my spouse (he had to stick behind to finish up his residency) but with a toddler AND a preggo self, live with my parents for several months, find a house, move into said house…well, you’re getting the picture, right? I blogged about this gorgeous Mexican themed nursery and this adorable Lil’ Adventurer themed nursery, but this stunningly pretty floral nursery got completely left out! It’s been a solid nine months later (ask me how I know? Oh right, because Baby #2 is about to pop!) and I’m finally giving this delightful room its share of the lime light. Enjoy!
“As soon as we found out we were having a girl, we knew we wanted a soft, feminine, and playful nursery. Our first decision was wallpaper. We have always loved floral patterns, but went back and forth between wanting a floral theme or a woodsy animal theme. Since we couldn’t decide, we went with both. My husband is very talented with drawing and painting, so we thought it would be perfect if he drew the animals and tied them into the wallpaper by giving them little floral crowns. Once we had those two details figured out, I painted the “In a field of roses…” sign and the rest sort of just fell into place. One of my other favorite pieces of decor is the swan with the tutu. We found that and the shelves at target (along with our crib and nightstand/changing table). Target has almost every plush animal head you can think of – they are all so cute and perfect for kids rooms! The mobile above our changing table was given to us as a gift from one of my friends. She handmade it and only had our wallpaper to go off of. It worked out perfectly and during diaper changes it has been the best distraction with our little babe. She loves looking up at it! Finally, our awesomely comfortable rocker/glider is from Buy Buy Baby. I’m so glad we went with it, because it makes those late night feedings so much easier to handle!”
But seriously – how gorgeous are those hand-drawn illustrations?
A floral nursery in soft grays & pinks for a baby girl
Thank you, Jenny, for opening up your home to me! This nursery is beyond perfect and I’m just so sorry it took so long to get up on my blog! <3
