One of my very favorite things in the world are museums. Especially art museums. And even more specifically, art museums that have beautiful and well-maintained grounds, free for the public to enjoy. The NC Museum of Art, located in Raleigh, has gorgeous rolling hills with meandering paths and large sculptures. In the wee hours of the morning, you’ll find this lovely oasis covered by an enchanting cloak of fine mist. The occasional early riser and faithful dog walker will emerge and then disappear in the mist, their steps hushed by the damp ground. I met Ben, Caitlin, and Wesley early on a Sunday morning for their late summer/early fall family portraits. Caitlin chose the most perfect pops of mustard yellow for their family’s color palette and Wesley came prepared with an array of adorably mischievous expressions. The resulting portraits were a smashing success, if I do say so myself.

Dad got a nonstop reel of giggles from Wesley his his tickles and funny noises and Mom did a great peek-a-boo behind me whenever that failed. A brand new, stuffed dino also helped to get some good laughs.
Everyone’s shoes were sopping wet by the end of the session from the early-morning dew!
This photo below of Wesley wrapped in the yellow blanket and held by his mother is one of my favorites. Such a cutie!
I loveloveLOVE this photograph of Ben and Caitlin wrapped together in a big bear hug. They were mid-laugh and totally adorable together.
Have you noticed my new watermark creeping into photos and popping up on the website? Caitlin designed it and I’m OBSESSED! She also creates absolutely delightful illustrations and hand lettered art. Pop on over to her website to check it out!
Caitlin, Ben, and Wesley, it was such a blast to work together! I hope your fall continues on as it has started: full of smiles, warmth and beauty!
