American Tobacco Campus Engagement Portraits
I was discussing locations with a new client today and realized, holy guacamole! I never blogged this amazing engagement / anniversary session at Durham’s American Tobacco Campus from the end of summer! Given the status of my ridiculously slow pregnancy brain, that’s not too surprising, but I definitely didn’t want to deprive the internet of these gorgeous images any longer. Meet Marissa and Matt: two of the friendliest people I’ve met in Durham (which is saying a lot, because Durham is overflowing with ridiculously lovely people!) and also one of the easiest couples I’ve photographed. Despite never having met me before that day, Marissa kept the conversation easily going, jumping from fun topic to fun topic as we meandered around the Tobacco Campus. If you’ve never been to the American Tobacco Campus, it’s basically a wide walkway nestled between a whole bunch of old buildings right in the heart of downtown Durham. There’s plenty of green space, interesting walls, neat architecture, bright murals and moving water. Besides being the home of many a restaurant and bar, this area also features concerts and events during the summer time AND is the location of the original Burt’s Bees storefront (thus the fantastically awesome bee mural below!). I loved that we were able to get portraits against two different angles of the famous Lucky Strike water tower, too. Best of all, we timed our shoot perfectly and got the most gorgeous golden light in some of these photos. Seriously stellar session! <3

Saw these spray painted signs leading toward’s the DPAC (Durham Performing Arts Center) and couldn’t resist a shoe shot.
How great of a backdrop was this sky? G.o.r.g.e.o.u.s.
Got any fun Durham locations I should check out for future shoots? I’m starting to put together a list of neat areas to show to clients, so I’m always open to suggestions!
